ELI instructor Charity Davenport will be presenting virtually at EnglishUSA’s 13th Annual Professional Development Conference on February 21, 2021. Her presentation will be on how digital social annotation can benefit students and instructors in blended and online courses, as well as a variety of free annotation tools, their capabilities, and strategies for implementing annotation in their courses.
Digital social annotation—where students interact with course content and each other by commenting on online text or videos–is an effective way to promote active reading and learning. Research shows that student and instructor participation in annotation encourages collaboration, knowledge construction, and critical thinking skills (Kalir & Garcia, 2019).
Charity was also featured in a Teaching and Learning Innovation article about how she used digital social annotation with her students in Fall 2020. Read the article here.
