The following are summer program packages that we offer:
Summer English Language & Outdoor Recreation Program
ELI and UT Knoxville are great for people interested in outdoor recreation! We are located in East Tennessee, famous for its lakes, rivers, parks, hills, caves, and mountains. We are also a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The University of Tennessee and ELI have everything you could possibly want for outdoor adventure: hiking, kayaking, rafting, fishing, caving, rock climbing, camping, and so much more! Students also spend time in a classroom participating in a full immersion English language program. This program will include 18 hours per week of English and cultural instruction along with evening and weekend outdoor excursions.
July 7-21 (2 week program schedule): $3,500
July 2-30 (4 week program schedule): $5,350
Summer English Language & American Culture and History Program
This program is for students who want to improve their English skills and experience ordinary life in the USA. Weekly field trip destinations include local museums, schools, cultural and historical sites, and recreational activities, plus special presentations by experts in the fields of American History and Cultural Studies. This program will help you learn about U.S. culture (how Americans think) and U.S. history (why Americans think as they do). The program includes conversation practice with local American students and 20 hours of English language instruction per week.
The English Language Institute also designs Custom Programs or courses to assist students, professionals, or visitors in developing language, professional, and cultural skills. Our special courses are a good way to serve groups who have specific learning goals or who cannot attend a regular ELI course. Custom Programs are designed to meet the specific needs of small (6) or large (60) groups, and they can be designed for specific time periods. They typically last from 2 to 6 weeks.
ELI can develop Custom Programs with focused content in the following areas:
- Summer or Holiday Intensive English
- English Teacher Training
- US History
- STEM (high school level)
- US Culture
- US Politics
- Outdoor Recreation
- Sports and Recreation
Most Special Programs occur in the summer months (mid-May through early August), but programs can be arranged throughout the year.
