Remembering Dr. Anthony Moses

tonyDr. Anthony (Tony) Moses, a long-time faculty member at the English Language Institute (ELI), passed away on September 2, 2015. He was originally from Magnolia, Arkansas, and received a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Arkansas University and Master’s from Arkansas State University. He lived and worked in Knoxville since he came to UT for graduate study, earning his Ph.D. in English in 1983. His scholarly interests included medieval literature and history, and he was an avid scholar, reader, and writer.

During his time at UT, Moses taught courses in medieval studies, and he had taught at ELI since 1985. He was a long-time resident of Fort Sanders. His love of the outdoors was expressed in the many trips on which he led international students to the Great Smoky Mountains, and the care with which he helped his students become better writers, readers, and speakers of English.
